Dry Eye Center

Some of the most common causes of dry eye include medications, environmental factors, inflammation, contact lens wear, age, or hormonal changes for women.

There are more than 30 million people in the United States with dry eye syndrome every year. Dry eye occurs when the eye does not produce tears properly, or when tears are not of the correct consistency and evaporate too quickly.

Dr. Randy Peters is a Dry Eye Specialist and a Dry Eye Patient!

Peters Family Eyecare is the first eye care provider in northwest Ohio to offer patients a breakthrough treatment protocol for Dry Eye Syndrome, including the new MiBo ThermoFlo. The MiBo is a heat treatment therapy that loosens hardened oils in the meibomian glands allowing instant relief for patients with mild, moderate, and severe dry eye disease.

“I have developed a real interest in dry eye solutions ever since I was diagnosed with dry eyes 10 years ago. Dry eye symptoms are persistent and agonizing. Through trial and error, and a lot of education, I feel I am in a strong position to help my family, my friends, and my patients overcome these irritating and sometimes debilitating symptoms.” -Dr. Randy Peters

The MiBo treatment uses a controlled thermoelectric heat that is applied with ultrasound gel directly to the eyelids. The technician will massage the lids with the MiBo for 8-10 minutes per eye in a very relaxing, spa-like atmosphere. The heat is absorbed deep into the tissue resulting in instant relief. For maximum effectiveness, the MiBo is performed in three separate visits over the course of 6 weeks. Combined with nutraceuticals and proper lid and lash hygiene, the MiBo can provide long-term relief for dry eye sufferers.

Early detection of dry eye disease allows Doctor Peters to safely and effectively restore the ocular surface making daily tasks easier and life more enjoyable for patients. If dry eye symptoms are left untreated, they will continue to worsen, and may eventually cause irreversible damage to the ocular surface.

Doctor Peters is the only Optometrist in the area that offers this revolutionary treatment. Peters Family Eyecare became an Accredited Dry Eye Center of Excellence in the spring of 2016, adding additional technology including the Oculus Keratograph, TearLab and InflammaDry. Through this advanced technology and the MiBo ThermoFlo, Doctor Peters has provided many patients with personalized treatment protocols that deliver long-term relief.

The TearLab Osmolarity Test is a pain-free device that tests the salt content of your tears. The TearLab test will give Doctor Peters your osmolarity number, which determines whether your dry eye is in the mild, moderate or severe stage, opening up the discussion for proper treatment options.

Another tool Doctor Peters uses to identify the cause of your dry eye is the InflammaDry Test. The InflammaDry test detects an elevated inflammatory marker within your tears. It works by gathering tear fluid from the inside lining of your lower lid. The test takes less than two minutes to administer, is completed in four easy steps, and results are available within 10 minutes.

Once Doctor Peters determines the cause of your dry eye, and which stage it is in, we can then identify the best, personalized treatment regimen to help alleviate your dry eye symptoms and improve your overall ocular surface health. Our office has a full supply of treatment products in stock including nutraceuticals, lid and lash cleansers and hydrating eye masks.

You can also take the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire by clicking on the link below. Your results will be emailed to you, and then you can share those results with our office at your next exam.
